China 1897 2c on 3ca mauve ‘Small Dragon’, ERROR SURCHARGE DOUBLE, SG35aThree survive, this is the best China 1897 2c on 3ca mauve Small Dragon, small figure surcharge type 13, ERROR SURCHARGE DOUBLE, SG35a. A fine mint example with large part original gum. The reverse has an underlay of black colouring which may be due to previous housing, although the gum is largely intact. A great Chinese Empire rarity of which only three examples are recorded, this being the finest known. Provenance: ex Percival David, Warren Kauder
