Percy Lancaster, Two EtchingsThis beautiful pair of etchings by British artist Percy Lancaster (1878 1951) depict a lady in two positions. In the first, shes standing with head bowed and hands clasped. Its a moment of reflection, almost prayerlike. While in the second, shes seated and looking ahead with interest mouth slightly open as if shes about to talk. In both, the lady wears a long orient inspired robe, which Lancaster has etched skilfully. Both etchings are signed in

Oswald Poreau was a Belgian artist who trained at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels under Joseph Stallaerts

Bang-Sorensen has applied the paint quite thickly in areas to give the piece some texture and the style is surely influenced by the French post-impressionists

The cap is particularly interesting as it’s constructed of lace woven from thin strips of gold

Yet it still carries the presence and joy of his best works - the deep violet and umber drapery adding to its vitality
